nyu's asian heritage month opening ceremony

Big props to the entire Asian Heritage Month committee at New York University, who have worked hard to produce tonight's Asian Heritage Month Opening Ceremony: Embark!, featuring keynote speaker John Kuo Wei Tchen, founding director of the A/P/A Studies Program and Institute and a co-founder of the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at NYU.

No props to NYU Local's Annie Werner, who thought she'd be oh-so-clever by mocking and filing the AHM Opening Ceremony under "The Boring" in her roundup of NYU Facebook events: NYU Facebook Events Roundup: Improv, Asians, and Greek Week. Ignorance disguised as snark.

She basically dismisses it as a celebration of "Asian books, Asian museum curators, Asian professors, Asian organizations, and lots of Asian people." It's not the fact that she deems the event boring -- for her, it appears to be boring because it's so Asian. Sorry it's not as fun as free wine or free empanadas.
