new graphic novels from gene luen yang

Gene Luen Yang, the guy behind the amazing, critically-acclaimed graphic novel American Born Chinese, recently released two new books... Prime Baby (First Second Books) collects a short story Gene did for the New York Times a little while back. It's about a third grader who's intensely jealous of his baby sister, so he sets out to prove that she's an alien from outer space.

Animal Crackers (SLG Publishing) collects Gene's first two graphic novels, Gordon Yamamoto and the King of the Geeks and Loyola Chin and the San Peligran Order, into a single volume. Gene has also added a new 12-page back-up feature where he talks about how he got into comics. I'll definitely have to pick up both of these books.

If you're in the Sacramento area tomorrow night, Gene will be doing a presentation on how to make comics. That's Tuesday, May 4, 4:00-5:30pm at Southgate Library. It's actually part of their teen programming, but I'm sure everyone is welcome. For more information, go to Gene Luen Yang's blog here.
