join a protest against the last airbender

The Last Airbender opens this week. If you're unhappy with the casting, there isn't much you can do about the movie itself -- it's being released, and Aang is a white kid. However, there's still a great deal you can do to get the word out about the casting issues surrounding the movie.

The good people at Racebending, who have spearheaded the awareness campaign around The Last Airbender, are organizing protests this week in Los Angeles, New York and Seattle. If you feel strongly about this issue, they're inviting you to join them. Here's their message to you:
As you know, Paramount discriminated against performers of color in its cast calls for the the Last Airbender adaptation. They continue to enforce a glass ceiling in Hollywood--with 83% of their upcoming films featuring a white male lead.

The film comes out on this week - and we plan on showing up in force, to prove that Americans of all backgrounds care about fair and equal representation in our media! These gatherings will be taking place in Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York.

If you've ever felt ANGRY about the casting or the need to fight back against Hollywood discrimination, then now is the time! Meet other people who feel passionate about supporting fair and equal casting!

The protest event is your chance to tell production companies that the Asian American community wants to see positive, inclusive change in American media. Every single voice matters. Your presence will make all the difference in the world.

If you're in Los Angeles, the protest will take place on Thursday, July 1st from 5PM onwards in Hollywood.

If you want to join us and meet up with other supporters of fair casting in Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York City, please email Mike@racebending.com.

Can't wait to hear from you and thank you for all of your support!

Sincerely,

The staff of Racebending.com
Be sure to contact Mike at Racebending to get involved. Like I said, there's not much you can do about the movie itself, but there's still plenty that can be done to raise awareness about the casting issues in The Last Airbender. Fans, they're calling on you to take a stand and spread the word. For more information about the protests, as well as this entire movement, go to Racebending.com.
