Film fans around Southern California might want to check out this cool screening series co-presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the UCLA Film and Television Archive: New Voices from Vietnam, a showcase of new feature films, shorts and documentaries by Vietnamese film artists, November 5-14.

The series' marquee event is An Academy Salute to Director Dang Nhat Minh, legendary director of such classic Vietnamese films as The Love Doesn't Come Back, Nostalgia for the Countryside and Don't Burn. The evening will include a conversation with the director and a screening of The Guava House. It's happening November 10 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
