what I'm listening to: cynthia lin's microscope

Finally got around to listening to Microscope, the new record from singer/songwriter Cynthia Lin. Her third album is a nine-song collection of original songs and covers recorded, arranged, engineered, mixed and produced -- in true indie fashion -- by Cynthia herself, with the help and support of friends.

Though not necessarily a thematic album, Cynthia says the songs "revolve around escapism, longing, hope, the truth of love, nostalgia, and ultimately self-discovery." My favorite track has to be her heartbreaking cover of Alphaville's "Forever Young," mashed up with "Another Day" from Rent. Here's the track list:

1. chemicals
2. holiday
3. microscope
4. forever young/anotherday
5. new day
6. all at once
7. there is a light that never goes out
8. eclipse
9. the girl from ipanema
You can download Microscope as a full digital download from Bandcamp for a donation of just 99 cents or more. 99 cents covers basic transaction fees and royalties, and anything more goes directly to Cynthia the indie artist.

You can also order hand-letterpressed physical copies of the album, which will ship on or around November 11. To preview and purchase Microscope, go here. For more information about Cynthia Lin and her music, go to her Facebook page here and her YouTube channel here.
