Another worthy cause to consider for your holiday giving... As you know, California recently passed a bill making every January 30 the Fred T. Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution -- the first day in U.S. history named after an Asian American!The Korematsu Institute has prepared curriculum kits to distribute to teachers throughout California before the very first Fred Korematsu Day, happening next month. But they need your help to reach their $50,000 fundraising goal before January 30, 2011.
In this first year, each kit, complete with a comprehensive K-12 teaching guide, multiple videos and a poster, costs $40 to produce and distribute. A $40 donation helps the Korematsu Institute send one kit to teach Fred Korematsu's inspirational story -- free of charge -- to one classroom.
To get these kits out before the first Fred Korematsu Day, they need our help. In this inaugural year, the Fred Korematsu Institute is offering exclusive gifts as a thank you for your generosity and support:
- A $40 donation helps us send 1 kit to teach Fred Korematsu's story to 1 classroom
- A $160 donation helps us send kits to history classrooms at an entire junior high or to 11th and 12th grade history classrooms at an entire high school. We'll also send you a limited-edition Fred Korematsu Day 2011 t-shirt in the size of your choice (men and women's sizes available–please indicate your preferred size on the donation form)
- A $560 donation helps us send kits to an entire elementary school. We'll also send you a DVD of the Emmy Award-winning documentary, Of Civil Wrongs and Rights: the Fred Korematsu Story, autographed by director Eric Fournier and co-producer, Ken Korematsu, son of Fred Korematsu
- A $1000 donation helps us ship kits to 25 classrooms. We'll also send you an autographed DVD of Of Civil Wrongs and Rights: the Fred Korematsu Story and a limited-edition Fred Korematsu Day 2011 poster autographed by Karen Korematsu, daughter of Fred Korematsu
