It's official. And it's historic. This week in San Francisco, the Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to appoint City Administrator Edwin Lee as the city's first Asian American mayor. He was sworn in immediately following the vote: Ed Lee becomes the city's first Chinese American mayor.
Lee's appointment makes San Francisco the largest city in the United States with an Asian American mayor. At least for the better part of thsi year. He will serve as interim mayor until next January, when the winner of this November's mayoral election will take over. Lee says he doesn't plan to run.
