residents drop their racist bullshit recall effort

That's right, people. Quit your racist whining and move along. After all that fuss and debate over the controversial Chinese government-funded "Confucius Classroom" language program, community members have dropped their efforts to recall four members of the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District: Residents drop recall against Hacienda la Puente Unified school board members.

They argued that the Chinese language curriculum was somehow an insidious scheme to spread communist propaganda, and launched a recall effort against board members Norman Hsu, Jay Chen, Anita Perez and Joseph Chang. Simply put, the recall effort was racist bullshit. They apparently abandoned the idea after realizing how much a special election would cost:
Petitioners dropped the recall three weeks ago after finding out it would cost the district $500,000 in special election costs.

"We felt that it'd be better to use that money on the kids instead of costing them," said Hacienda Heights resident Rudy Obad, 74. "We had a lot of support, more than I thought I would get."

"But I just thought even if we got the support ... we'd be better off getting new people during the elections and get two people who think like us ... and don't use communist books," Obad said of Chen and Hsu, whose terms are set to expire in November.

Chen said the recall would have been a huge a waste of taxpayer money.

"We've already spent tens of thousands of dollars responding to these petty public records requests," Chen said. "They've already impacted our school economically. This would have been taking it way too far."
The recall effort was already an extraordinary waste of everybody's time, money and good sense. If you look at the Notice of Intention to Circulate Recall Petition they served Jay earlier this year, one of the grounds they name is that he's manipulating students "to serve China's government." How, exactly? Through the poisonous mind-control ink used in "the communist Chinese books"?

Take a good, long look at this portrait of a changing community, and how old-school prejudice rears its ugly head. Some people are holding on to a firm belief of what "America" should look and sound like, and this recall petition was a desperate last gasp to hold on to that. Silly racists.
