live webcast with secretary norman mineta, september 10


This weekend, the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program is hosting a live webcast with Secretary Norman Mineta, who will discuss his life and the events and impact of September 11, 2001. It's happening Saturday, September 10, 2:00-3:00pm ET. Watch it here.

The talk will take place in front of Mineta's recently unveiled portrait at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, but you can log on and watch from anywhere with an internet connection. Here are some more details:

Secretary Norman Mineta will discuss his life and the events and impact of September 11, 2001. During the tragic events of 9/11, then Secretary of Transportation Mineta issued the historic order to ground all civilian aircraft, the first time this had been done in U.S. history. Mineta retired from his Cabinet post in 2006 and in that same year, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award. This talk will take place in front of Mineta's portrait at the National Portrait Gallery.
