Check out this cool short documentary, Loves of a DJ, directed by film students Faroukh Virani & Bobbi Dai, on Los Angeles-based Chinese American DJ Patrick "DJ Phatrick" Huang. The piece delves into Phatrick's Chinese American identity and his love of hip hop, as well as his work as a DJ and youth educator. Take a look:
The film is a co-production of University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and the Communications University of China. The filmmakers were originally interested in making a documentary about Asian Americans in hip hop, and later narrowed it to focus on Phatrick.
A great deal of the documentary features Patrick's work with Sessions LA, a music writing, production, recording, & DJ program for youth and young adults in Los Angeles.
