1492 pictures picks up the movie rights to charles yu's how to live safely in a science fictional universe

Some cool movie news! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Columbus' 1492 Pictures has picked up the movie rights to the novel How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe: Chris Columbus' Production Company Acquires Sci-Fi Novel.

Published in 2010, How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe, the debut novel from from writer Charles Yu, is the tale of a time travel technician -- who also happens to be named Charles Yu -- searching for his father... through quantum space-time. Here's the book description:
Every day in Minor Universe 31 people get into time machines and try to change the past. That's where Charles Yu, time travel technician, steps in. He helps save people from themselves. Literally. When he's not taking client calls, Yu visits his mother and searches for his father, who invented time travel and then vanished. The key to locating his father may be found in a book. It's called How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe, and somewhere inside it is information that will help him. It may even save his life.
The movie will be directed by Brendan Bellomo. I think it goes without saying, but I do hope that the main character remains named Charles Yu, and like real-life author Charles Yu, is Asian American. Seriously, is that too much to ask? Probably. Fingers crossed.
