angry reader of the week: cynthia brothers

Heeeyyyy! Listen up. It's time to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Cynthia Brothers.

Who are you?
Cynthia Brothers…Cindy to my family, CBro to my friends. I wish I had sisters so we could form a gang called the "Brothers Sisters."

What are you?
Second-generation Chinese American and white biracial woman. Lover of obese pets, regional accents, Internet memes, comic books, and carbs.

Where are you?
Currently based in Seattle/South King County, with a hefty chunk of time spent where I used to live, New York -- for work and for eating a slow path of destruction through the city.

Where are you from?
Seatown, WA

What do you do?
For my current job I'm a grantmaker and consultant in the immigrant rights and civic engagement fields. I'm also a blog columnist for Hyphen and Bicoastalbitchin (BCB). Co-founder and hustler of the Yellow Peril Dildo with my biz partner and fellow BCB blogger BANG! (please don't tell our parents). My evenings are usually spent with electro-dance band Noddy and rock band Danny the Street. I play the trumpet and sing passably, and punch at the keyboards on a pretty abysmal level (isn't not knowing how to play your instrument the core of "punk rock"?) Plus, lots of spastic dancing and grossing out the crowd every time I release my spit valve.

What are you all about?
Still figuring this out, but... family, friends, and community. Trying my best to create and leave behind more good stuff than bad, and learning to have the courage of convictions. Immigration reform, trashy blogs, Wong Kar-wai, happy hours, social justice, karaoke, drag queens, Xi'an lamb burgers, people-watching, getting a good bargain, hoarding plastic bags, www.yellowdildo.com, making lists.

What makes you angry?
When people say "American" when they mean White. The idea that "post-racial" is a realistic or desirable thing. The appallingly inhumane treatment and policies towards immigrants in this country (especially AZ and Alabama). Right wing media and politicians and their anti-everything fear mongering. People who come to a complete halt at the top of the subway stairs. Yellow Fever. Widespread attempts to roll back voting rights and suppress the vote of low-income, youth, and people of color. When people assume I'm someone's girlfriend or groupie and not a band member. Attempts to discredit the Occupy movement by focusing on the hygiene or mental stability of protestors (um, hello, Tea Party?). Hipster culture vultures. The typical portrayal of Asians in Hollywood. When I juuuuust miss happy hour. People who are offended by other people being offended. Cat litter in the sheets.
