Saw this on i09 a little while ago and it made laugh... This is a clip from the 1970s Japanese animated series Battle Commander Daimos, in which the hero must go through an insane number of (somewhat dangerous and unnecessarily complex) steps to get into his giant robot:
"Light speeeeeeed!"
It just seems like they could save a considerable amount of time if they eliminated about 37 steps in the sequence and the robot was just conveniently stored in a garage somewhere nearby.
The headline sums it up: Perhaps the most unnecessarily complex mecha transformation in anime history.
