internship opportunity: minkwon center for community action spring 2012 interns

Hey students! Looking for an internship? The MinKwon Center for Community Action, a nonprofit organization in Flushing that serves the needs of Asian immigrant communities and advocates for immigrant rights, is looking for qualified folks to fill internship positions for the spring 2012 semester. Here are some more details:
Administrative Intern
The MinKwon Center is seeking an Administrative Intern who will assist MinKwon’s Executive Director, Administrative Director, and other staff on a range of tasks to ensure that the organization has a strong foundation for its award-winning program work. The internship responsibilities include serving as liaison between Directors and outside stakeholders such as elected officials and funders, providing support in planning special events, and helping expand publicity efforts.

Advocacy & Community Organizing Intern
The MinKwon Center’s community organizing work seeks to engage Korean Americans in the Flushing area to work on issues around immigration, housing and labor. The internship responsibilities include assisting the community organizer in relationship-building with community members, participating in community outreach efforts and engaging in advocacy efforts in coalition with other organization and groups.

Chinese Community Intern
The MinKwon Center’s Immigrant Rights Legal Clinic features legal representation, free legal clinics and outreach activities in conjunction with a diverse group of legal organizations. Over the past 3 years, the MinKwon Center has helped clients secure more than $700,000 through settlements, judgments, and court victories. Recently, we have expanded our program areas to work with the Chinese American communities. The internship responsibilities include engaging in direct contact with Chinese and English-speaking clients, helping prepare educational workshops, translating, and helping coordinate outreach.

Labor & Housing Legal Intern
The MinKwon Center’s comprehensive Immigrant Rights Legal Clinic provides free legal services to the Asian American community members in both the Flushing, Queens area and throughout the metropolitan New York area. The Immigrants Rights Legal Clinic seeks to protect the rights of community members by providing free legal assistance in the areas of labor, immigration, housing, and civil rights law. We provide direct legal representation and work closely with other legal groups and pro bono lawyers to help these community members achieve social and economic justice. The internship responsibilities include working on active litigation, coordinating advocacy efforts, conducting educational activities for community members, and performing legal research.
