Last October, after weeks of racial taunting, mistreatment, hazing and abuse, Private Danny Chen took his own life at his army base in Afghanistan. In light of this tragedy, community groups and civil rights organizations have been rallying for justice Danny Chen by advocating for vigorous anti-harassment policies in the U.S. military.
Danny would have turned 20 on May 26. OCA-NY is collecting birthday cards for Pvt. Chen that will be delivered to members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees in Washington D.C. on May 23.
And on Thursday, May 24 in New York, community members will be holding a Birthday Salute for Private Danny Chen, an artistic tribute and fundraiser.
All proceeds will go towards mobilizing the family and community to attend the courts-martial and our continued efforts to raise awareness on Danny's case. Here are some more details:
