All right, my friends. I'm the Executive Producer of a little something called Awesome Asian Bad Guys. I know I throw a lot of fundraising pitches your way, but this time I am personally calling on you for support.
My buddies Patrick and Stephen of National Film Society are making Awesome Asian Bad Guys, an action/comedy webseries about "two offbeat filmmakers, a volatile group of Asian bad guys and one impossible mission."
In order to accomplish this impossible mission, they need to raise some cash. Cue funny and totally rad pitch video, featuring the worst bake sale ever:
What is this all about? How did they get this crazy idea? Patrick and Stephen explain why they're making Awesome Asian Bad Guys:
When we were growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, we’d always see hard-hitting Asian bad guys in flicks like Die Hard, Bloodsport, and Karate Kid 2. These badasses were often cooler than the heroes they fought, but they’d usually have a 2-minute lifespan before they were mortally wounded or beaten to a pulp. It really sucked that you barely saw them on screen and rarely got to know them. That got us thinking...The five-episode series is set to shoot early next year. They've already enlisted the help of actors Randall Park, Aaron Takahashi, perennial 1980s movie bad guy Al Leong, Karate Kid Pt. II's Yuji Okumoto, and hell yeah, Tamlyn Tomita.
How cool would it be to expand upon this largely ignored slice of pop culture history by following several Asian bad guys on their own action-packed adventures?
Incredibly cool, right? So we’re making it - AWESOME ASIAN BAD GUYS!
And yes, they somehow persuaded me to sign on as executive producer. But I wouldn't be a part of this project if I didn't believe in it. National Film Society regularly makes really enjoyable videos, and I'm certain Awesome Asian Bad Guys is going to be a lot of fun.
They've put together a pretty awesome Kickstarter campaign with lots of cool pledge levels and ways to be a part of the fun. One of the rewards includes the opportunity to appear on an upcoming episode of the Sound and Fury podcast with Patrick, Steven and me.
