volunteer opportunity: apalc phone bank and/or poll monitor

If you live in the Los Angeles area, here's a great opportunity for you to get involved with the elections this year...

Our friends at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center's Your Vote Matters! 2012 campaign are looking for phone bank volunteers who will help get the word out to voters about their polling place locations and educatgethem to vote yes on Prop 30. Here's some more information on what you'll be asked to do:
We will be making bilingual/culturally competent phone calls informing voters of their polling place location and educating them to vote yes on Prop 30. Our phone bank begins this Thursday (Oct 4) and will run through Election Day (Nov 6). It's fun and an important way to close the cycle of civic engagement (AANHPIs are not apathetic! We are ignored politically!) and we will be targeting our bilingual/culturally competent calls to communities that usually never get targeted by mainstream campaigns.

We are giving out a tiny stipend, feeding you dinner and giving you a shirt. The shift is 3 hours long, after work, so if after a day of working you feel the need to make a difference, stop by APALC and make some calls!
To partake in a phone bank, you'll have to attend a training. To RSVP for a session, take a look at the list of dates and fill out the form here. And for further details on the phone bank, take a look at the Facebook event here.
