Police identify violent mugger targeting asians in harlem

This is apparently the guy. In New York City, police have identified the violent mugger responsible for a series of recent brutal attacks -- at least eight robberies and assaults -- on Asian Americans in East Harlem: Police ID Suspect Wanted In Violent East Harlem Elevator Attacks On Asians.

NYPD released a photo of Jason Commisso, a career criminal wanted in connection with eight attacks between January 17 and 26. In each of the incidents, the suspect followed victims into elevators then assaulted them repeatedly before robbing All of the victims -- four men and four women of varying ages -- are of Asian descent.

The most recent attack happened on Friday, when Commisso allegedly beat a 27-year-old woman for her iPhone. That's when the NYPD officially declared the case a pattern. Ya think?

Police officials said the pattern includes these incidents:

-- On Jan. 19, Commisso hit a 46-year-old woman and stole her purse, cops said.

-- On Jan. 21, he followed a 64-year-old man into an elevator, punched him repeatedly, and stole his wallet.

-- On Jan. 23, Commisso again punched a 46-year-old man and a 62-year-old man in different elevators, stealing the men's wallets.

-- On Jan. 24, he punched a 47-year-old woman in an elevator and stole her purse.

-- On Jan. 24, he followed a 27-year-old into an elevator of her apartment building, assaulted her, took her purse and iPhone and fled.

According to police, Commisso is 6-feet-1 and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes and is believed to live in East Harlem. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 in cash for information leading to the arrest indictment of the person responsible for these crimes.
