A galaxy far, far away just got waaaaaaay more badass... As Star Wars devotees count the days until the release of the new Star Wars sequel, action fans will be pleased to hear that three actors from The Raid movies -- certifiably two of the most kickass movies of all time -- have joined the cast of Episode VII.
'The Raid' Action Trio Tapped For 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
The production has been shrouded in secrecy, so details are sparse, but word on the street is that Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman will have roles in The Force Awakens. You last saw these gentlemen kicking copious amounts of ass in the Indonesian action hits The Raid and The Raid 2.
We have no word yet on what their characters may be, which side of the good guy / bad guy line they fall upon or whether any will survive through until the subsequent pictures but think on this: After the underwhelming prequel trilogy with its massive over-reliance on CGI trickery not only has Abrams shown a strong preference for practical effects but has now also cast a trio of highly skilled martial artists who have already demonstrated their skills with blades, batons, etc in a world where super powered warriors fight with blades, batons, etc.
Hell yes. Hell yes, all night long. If you haven't seen The Raid or The Raid 2, do it now!
Iko Uwais plays an honest cop up against the Jakarta underworld. Ruhian played a dude named Mad Dog, and was so badass they brought him back for the second movie as a completely different character. Rahman appeared in the The Raid 2 as a character simply named "The Assassin," and performed a lot of impressive punchkickery in the movie's kitchen fight finale.
Now, think of a lightsaber in the hands of any one of these guys. Yes. Yessssssss.
