Voting Rights Senior Program Coordinator

Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Asian Law Caucus (Advancing Justice-ALC), the nation's oldest legal and civil rights organization serving Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs), strives to educate and empower AAPI communities to assert their rights and to participate actively in American society. Our current program areas include national security, civil rights, immigrant rights, workers' rights, housing rights, criminal justice reform, ASPIRE, and voting rights.

Advancing Justice-ALC is seeking a Senior Program Coordinator for the Voting Rights Program to oversee the civic engagement portions of Advancing Justice-ALC's Election Protection / Language Access project, which protects access to the ballot for immigrant and limited English-proficient (LEP) AAPI and Latino voters in 18 Northern California counties before and during this year's critical elections.

Over the next six months, it will cultivate relationships in minority language communities in each county in which it works, in order to engage community leaders and community-rooted organizations in Advancing Justice-ALC's monitoring of and advocacy to county elections officials. The Election Protection / Language Access project will also partner with community organizations to operate a community-led poll monitoring program in 18 counties during the November 8, 2016 general election.

New projects and opportunities that serve immigrant voters, LEP voters, and voters of color, yet to be determined, will likely be possible in the second half of the position's tenure.

The Senior Program Coordinator will work under the direction of the Voting Rights Program Manager. The position is based in Advancing Justice-ALC's San Francisco office but will require extensive travel around the Northern California region, from Fresno County to Mendocino County.

Responsibilities:

- Identify and recruit community partners in each of the Election Protection / Language Access project’s 18 counties of focus.

- Develop and distribute voting rights and voter education materials.
- Support community partners in leading community workshops on voting and voter registration.
- Help community partners recruit, train, and manage Election Day poll monitor volunteers.
- Assist in the execution of an Election Day poll monitoring program.
- Assist in the drafting of a statewide post-Election Day report on the accessibility of California’s elections to LEP voters.

- Very strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to work independently.
- Willingness to travel and flexibility to attend evening meetings/events.
- Experience in project management.
- Helpful but not required: Experience working with low-income AAPI and/or other immigrant communities.
- Helpful but not required: Skills in AAPI language(s).
