Angry Reader of the Week: Perlina Lau

"I get over excited about Halloween and then regret sinks in when I have to make the costume."

Hello, internet! You know what time it is. It's time to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. All the way from New Zealand, this week's Angry Reader is Perlina Lau.

Who are you?

Woah, it's only the first question -- things are getting deep...

What are you?

Human (hopefully) but also a Kiwi Chinese, someone in their late 20s who's increasingly unsure about what she's doing with her life. Is that normal? Is this a cry for help?

Where are you?

I'm currently sitting at my work desk in a newsroom in Auckland, NZ. Everyone around me has gone home. If I was taller I'd be looking through to a radio studio and loads of TV screens but as it stands, I'm looking at some folders and a dying plant instead. I should get some phone books (do they still exist?) to prop me up.

Mentally though -- phwoar! Isn't this a different story. I'm quite sure I'm on my way to Japan --- Hokaido so I can try their ice-creams I've heard so much about. That, or Hawaii where I can just lie on a beach and catch up on my endless list of books I've been meaning to read.

Where are you from?

I was born in Whangarei -- small town north of Auckland, New Zealand... but if you mean "no, but where are you FROM!?" -- then I'm Chinese, my parents are from Hong Kong & they moved to NZ decades ago.

What do you do?

I'm a social media and digital producer for a current affairs programme. I've just started dabbling in reviewing films and TV and of course, Friday Night Bites.

What are you all about?

Currently Friday Night Bites, Flat3 allll day errday, travelling -- I can't get enough of it. I think I'll try and make Japan my next stop. Family, friends, musicals, comedy, film, TV, news, reading -- I'm just about to start The Lynching -- about the two trials that brought down the KKK. Intersectional feminism (big words), apple with cheese, anything with cheese really, actually just food in general, wine, NZ beaches -- summer is coming up for us and this spring has been soggy!! Camping (occasionally), dressing up for Halloween -- I'm pretty sure I get over excited about Halloween and then regret sinks in when I have to make the costume. My craft skills aren't on point.

What makes you angry?

When people travel overseas and they're rude to the staff or the locals and aren't willing to understand the culture. It grinds my gears to no end!
