Angry Reader of the Week: Ethan Young

"First and foremost, a storyteller."

What's up, internet friends? It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Ethan Young.

Who are you?

Hi, I'm Ethan Young. *Waves hand*

What are you?

I'm an Asian American cartoonist. A father and husband. A man who once adopted a lot of cats. A vegan. And a sad Knicks fan.

Where are you?

I live in Ithaca, NY right now, home to Cornell, numerous waterfalls, and more Priuses than I can count.

Where are you from?

The most loaded question for any PoC. Well, my parents are from Guangdong Province, China, and I was born and raised in NYC. I'm proud to tell people that I lived in the Lower East Side before it became Disneyland-lite.

What do you do?

I primarily make comics with strong Asian themes, imagery, and characters. People know me best for Nanjing: The Burning City. Before doing comics full time, I was a freelance artist who worked on everything from gay erotica to PSA comics for Johnson & Johnson. I'm a Jack Of All Trades.

What are you all about?

First and foremost, a storyteller. I pride myself on telling emotional stories with strong character beats. Second, I want to make sure my comics showcase underrepresented groups. My sci-fi book, The Battles of Bridget Lee, stars a forty year old AsAm combat medic fighting aliens. That's something I can hang my hat on.

What makes you angry?

Bullshit excuses decrying diversity in media. We've all heard the same talking points repeated ad nauseum. Nothing works unless you put the effort into it. It'll take time, but I think we're seeing the progress swing up, which is something.

Also, bad officiating in NBA games.
