Angry Reader of the Week: Jasmine Cho

"I try to make people pause, and I use sugar to do it."

Heyyyyyy everybody! It is time once again to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Jasmine Cho.

Who are you?

My name is Jasmine Cho. Some people know me for my baking and some know me as the daughter of a Tae Kwon Do Grandmaster. Only a handful know the introverted, private me who just happens to have a big sweet tooth and loves martial art flicks.

What are you?

A baker, an artist, an author, a cookie activist, a TEDx speaker, an entrepreneur, an aspiring art therapist with a vision to establish a research-based field of bake therapy, a Korean American woman; a human being trying to live each day with integrity and joy.

Where are you?

I live in Pittsburgh, PA aka Mister Rogers' Neighborhood!

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA until I was about 13 years old. I then moved to San Clemente, CA for a bit and then lived in Albuquerque, NM, Honolulu, HI, and now Pittsburgh, PA.

What do you do?

I try to make people pause, and I use sugar to do it. Specifically, via portrait cookies.

I use cookies as a tool to elevate representation for communities that are underrepresented and/or misrepresented in textbooks and media. I tend to focus on creating edible portraits of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders from past and modern history who I want more people to know about and who I wish I had learned about in my childhood. Cookies have proven to be a powerfully inviting and disarming medium that captures and maintains people's attention long enough to pause; pause to think, pause to care, and pause to reflect.

What are you all about?

I'm a human being always hungry to grow and evolve. I'm constantly questioning and constantly learning. I try to apply whatever good I learn to my own life while also working to share and multiply that good with others in the most accessible ways I know how.

What makes you angry?

Injustice, apathy, and cruelty. These not only induce rage in me but also deep exasperation and sorrow... They're parts of life that dim humanity, and I yearn for a world where everyone's light is allowed to shine to its full potential.
