race: yellow

Thank you, Texas. This is both amazing and appalling. A good reader named Jennifer sent me this awesome scan of her friend's birth certificate, which he had posted on Facebook. Scott, whose parents are from Taiwan, was born in the small town of Cleburne, Texas.

The year was 1985. And back then, as you can see, they had a very peculiar way classifying the race of newborn baby Scott: Yellow. Not Asian, not even Oriental. Yellow. Hopefully, a few things have changed since then at Memorial Hospital. (But you never know.)
