The New York Times recently ran a profile on Arun Chaudhary, the first official White House videographer, who's pretty much been there with a camera in the President's face through all of the Obama administration's best and worst moments: His Job Is to Make Public Obama's Candid Side.
I imagine this guy has been privy to some pretty interesting, candid moments -- the good and thebad. And he's got it all on tape! Every piece of video the White House shoots, even the outtakes, is saved and will eventually become part of the official record in the presidential library. I hope that means some day we'll get to see video of President Obama cursing fools out.
Mr. Chaudhary is the official White House videographer and the first person to hold the job, a part documentarian, part White House-message-machine post. He travels with the president on roughly two-thirds of his trips, documenting the behind-the-scenes occasions and public theatrics.
He pulls his video together into "West Wing Week," a signature production that comes out on the White House Web site every Friday and offers a pithy look at the president’s past week. Mr. Chaudhary, 35, serves as reporter and promoter, and last week, when Democrats suffered crushing defeats in the midterms, was especially tough. Mr. Chaudhary stuck to fairly innocuous clips - talk of "bipartisan solutions" and how to "move the country forward" - and never overtly mentioned the president's self-described electoral "shellacking."
