2012 fred korematsu day events

The second annual Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution is coming up on January 30. It's a chance for us all to reflect on a civil rights icon's life-long struggle for justice.

Don't know about Fred Korematsu's historic case? Well, that's the point of having a day dedicated to him. Use the opportunity to learn or pass along some knowledge.

January 11, Costa Mesa, CA: Orange County Department of Education Korematsu teaching event

January 12, San Diego, CA: San Diego County Office of Education Korematsu teaching event

January 27, Humboldt County, CA: Humboldt County Teaching American History Korematsu presentation

January 28, Humboldt County, CA: Humboldt County History Day Korematsu presentation

January 28, San Jose, CA: Japanese American Museum of San Jose Fred Korematsu Day teacher workshop

January 29, Oakland, CA: Fred Korematsu Day presentation at the Oakland Museum of California

January 30, San Francisco, CA: Fred Korematsu Day panel and reception at UC Hastings College of the Law. Location: UC Hastings Alumni Reception Center, 200 McAllister Street, San Francisco. Panel discussion from 4:30pm-6:45pm, followed by a reception from 6:45pm to 7:30pm. Open to the public.

January 30, Davis, CA: the Fred T. Korematsu Elementary School at Mace Ranch will hold day and evening activities. Details TBA.

January 30, Pasadena, CA: Fred Korematsu Day panel discussion, 2-4pm at Donald Wright Auditorium, Pasadena Main Library. Contact Wendy Anderson for details:

February 2, Washington, DC: Fred Korematsu portrait presentation at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery's Struggle for Justice civil rights exhibit (Korematsu Institute/Smithsonian invite-only event).
