obesity rates growing among asian american youth

According to research from the Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness, Research and Training, Asian Americans have the fastest growing rate of overweight and obese children: Obesity rates among Asian-American youths growing.

Obesity among Asian American youths is on the rise, and the causes range from cultural to environmental factors—Asian American families tend to be less physically active, more home-oriented and more screen-oriented than other groups.

We also seem to dig fast food a lot. According to a California Health Interview Survey, Asian teens consume more fast food than their white counterparts. Forty-three percent ate fast food daily, compared with 35 percent of white teens.

Asian and Pacific Islander children are also the least physically active of all racial and ethnic groups. What's up with that? My friends, in the spirit of the new year, let us get off our asses and fight this trend!
