the architecture of san francisco chinatown

The San Francisco Chronicle has an interesting article on architect/historian Philip Choy's The Architecture of San Francisco Chinatown, a new booklet published by the Chinese Historical Society of America that examines the aesthetic history and origin of many of the "Oriental" structures that populate San Francisco's Chinatown: Preservation impetus for designs of Chinatown.

It sounds pretty fascinating, in a cultural nerdy architecture urban planning kinda way. Something to look at on your next tour of Chinatown. Philip Choy will give a reading on Saturday, February 21 at the Chinese Historical Society of America. The Architecture of San Francisco Chinatown can be purchased for $7 at the Society, or ordered via email at info@chsa.org.
