additional teens charged in killing of david kao

An update on the robbery and fatal strangulation of newspaper exec David Kao last week in Queens... Two more teens were charged in connection with the robbery/murder: Additional Teens Charged In Robbery, Killing Of Queens Man.

According to the New York Daily News, Jay-Quel Merkerson and Bryce Newton, both 16, were hit with various counts after both were spotted in Kao's stolen car after he was killed -- Merkerson for possession of stolen property and Newton for unlawful use of a stolen vehicle.

Previously, 16-year-old Corey Azor and 17-year-old Chris Levy were charged with Kao's murder and are being held without bail. According to authorities, this isn't the first time the group has targeted Asian men in the neighborhood. Teenagers or not, their crime shows a complete disregard for human life. Why isn't this being prosecuted as a hate crime?
