last batch: 2010 census family portrait contest

Did you send in your census form? Did you send me a photo? Here's a big stack of photos, the last batch of submissions for the 2010 Census Family Portrait Contest. A huge thank you to everyone who sent in a photo -- it was an awesome, overwhelming response.

Basically, in an effort to increase awareness about the Census, I conducted a little giveaway, asking readers to send in photos of you and your household with your Census form (or a sign saying "I COUNT"). All together, we had a really cool Census family portrait gallery going. It turned out even better than I expected.

The deadline to submit a photo was yesterday (but it's not too late to mail in your Census form). So, we now have ten winners, drawn at random from everyone (just under a hundred) who sent in a photo. The lucky names are:

Linda N. of Brooklyn, NY
Olivia L. of San Francisco, CA
Hyunkyung B. of West Chester, PA
Jason H. of Alliance, OH
Cathy M. of Atlanta, GA
Alex C. of Lutherville, MD
Kenneth S. of Palo Alto, CA
John N. of Plano, TX
Sarah Y. of Los Angeles, CA
Emily W. of San Marino, CA

They each receive a limited edition Angry Asian Man t-shirt, courtesy of our pal Jerry Ma at Epic Proportions. (Be sure to check out the other amazing Epic designs here). The rest of you get nothing, but your photo will be immortalized in the archives of this blog.

Like I said, the Census Bureau will continue to accept 2010 Census questionnaires by mail through mid-April. Again, thank you to everyone. I received way more photos than anticipated, from people who really got into the spirit of it, and in their own way, helped spread the word about the importance of the 2010 Census for the APA community. We'll do it again in another ten years.
