gr's big boss robot toy

Collectors, behold! It is the Big Boss Robot, the very first toy designed by Giant Robot's Eric Nakamura. For those of you heading to San Diego Comic-Con next week, the toy will be available exclusively as a blind-box figure at the Giant Robot booth. To see the Big Boss Robot in action, check out this stop-motion video:

I feel the need to step in with the old kid toy commercial disclaimer: please note that the Big Boss Robot will not actually move around on its own (unless there is more action to this figure than they're telling me). This figure will also be part of the effort to keep GR afloat. Eric explains:
You may be thinking, 'why should I help Giant Robot sell its toy?'
This new venture is really just another way for us to keep on going.
If you read Giant Robot magazine, you've probably seen the partnership
we've developed with Good Smile Company, the great indie toy company
of Japan. By helping us promote these figures, you will ultimately be
supporting us and our publication. Selling more of the GR figures
would help us out a ton.

The marketplace is glutted with toys these days. Figures are being
made all too often, many by folks whose efforts go largely unnoticed.
Obviously, we don't want to fall into that place.

So what's the difference between Big Boss Robot and many of the other
toys out there? Our toy is co-produced with Good Smile Company.
They're used to making hyper-detailed toys. The
Big Boss Robot is based on our logo, which is licensed as a Blik wall
graphic, and also appears in our magazine, T-shirts, and caps. Though
simple, the GR robot project has already garnered a huge thumbs-up
from David Horvath, co-creator of the Uglydolls, for its amazing
quality.

I hope you will share even a fraction of my excitement about this toy
and deem it worthy of your support as well.
I'm a sucker for cool-looking toys. For more information, check out Eric Nakamura's blog here And to all you Comic-Con-goers, you can get your very own Big Boss Robot next week from Giant Robot, Booth 1729.
