The two boys traded blows in a fight that lasted about ten seconds during gym class earlier this week. Lee collapsed and later died at the hospital when he was declared brain dead and taken off life support. According to schoolmates and administrators, the two students were apparently good friends:
The fight happened between two best friends, ages 17 and 19 years old, at First Lutheran High School in Sylmar on Tuesday, Dec. 14th.The coroner's office is expected to conduct an autopsy to see if Lee had an underlying medical condition that could have contributed to his death. If no other contributing factor is found, murder charges will likely be filed.
According to other students who witnessed the fight, foreign exchange student Jin Su Lee and his friend Ju Lee, also an exchange student, got in to an argument on the football field.
The verbal altercation turned into a fist fight. After the fight was broken up, Jin Su Lee, 19, was being escorted off the field when he collapsed.
He was rushed to the hospital where he lapsed into coma, was declared brain dead and taken off life support.
Now, L.A. police investigators are considering filing a charge of murder against the 17-year-old.
