casting call: experimental short still life with

This casting call came my way the other day, thought I'd share... Ami Patel is looking for actors two fill two female roles for her five-minute experimental narrative short, Still Life With, about the experiences of a queer South Asian woman as she examines her love of self, partner and family. Here are some more details:
CASTING CALL

"Still Life With"

Short film, 5 min. Experimental-Narrative
Director: Ami Patel

Still Life With is a project funded and supported by Visual Communications and will premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival in May 2011. It follows a young queer South Asian woman as she faces the banalities of another day—except this day is the Hindu New Year, a day of introspection and renewal, and jilted communication with her parents sits heavy in her heart as she examines her love of self, partner, and family. NOTE: Since it is an experimental film with a voiceover, there will be minimal to no dialogue.

Seeking 2 Female Roles:

Maya - Lead Character
Mid-late 20s, South Asian/West Asian. Feminine, pensive, heavy with emotions. She has recently had a falling out with her family due to her queer relationship, and is piecing back her life and her love for herself. She spends the day mostly in agitated isolation, until she meets her partner in the evening.

Suman - Supporting Role
Mid-late 20s, South Asian/West Asian/Latina/African American (any ethnicity), butch/stud, masculine, casual, gentle smile, calm demeanor. She works at a cafe. She is Maya’s partner and is a grounding presence in her life.

NON-UNION
Please submit headshot and resume to amiagogo.productions@gmail.com. Please specify the role you are auditioning for.

Auditions will be held March 2 & 3 in LA
Callbacks (if needed) will be held March 8 in LA
Shoot dates will be March 18-21 in LA

Please prepare a short dramatic monologue and be prepared to do a cold read.

Perks—film festival exposure, DVD copy, meals.
Okay, so experimental narrative queer south asian short doesn't necessarily sound like the kind of genre that's going to get a young actor a lot of exposure. But the film will be premiering at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, so that's someting. For more information go to the Facebook note here.
