angry reader of the week: andrew ahn

Hello. You know what time it is. Time to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Sundance-bound filmmaker Andrew Ahn.

Who are you?
I am Andrew Ahn, a gay Korean-American filmmaker.

What are you?
I am a storyteller, an explorer. I dig deeper, searching for complexity, authenticity, and compassion.

Where are you?
Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival! My new short Dol (First Birthday) is premiering here this weekend. For those of you who can't make it out to the festival, you can check out my film and other Sundance shorts on Yahoo! Vote for your favorite!

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I left for the East Coast for high school and college, but came back for graduate school at CalArts. I missed the warm weather. I love Los Angeles - it's such a rich place! So many people, so many stories; I don't think I'll be leaving again.

What do you do?
I make films. Filmmaking is all about visual storytelling. How do I tell a story using this particular medium? I write scripts, I storyboard action, I direct actors, I edit footage. Hopefully by the end, I've crafted something interesting, exciting, and cinematic.

What are you all about?
I'm all about the gay Asian American community. They are my brothers and sisters. We support each other in our struggles as people caught in between cultures, generations, and ideals.

What makes you angry?
Apathy, homophobia, dying cell phone batteries (just need to make one more phone call!), "THE MAN,"and kiwis (allergic).
