two tourists stabbed to death in attempted robbery

Some awful news out of New Jersey where a woman was arrested last week for the stabbing death of two Canadian tourists near an Atlantic City casino: Woman charged in NJ deaths of 2 Canadian tourists.

According to authorities, Antoinette Pelzer repeatedly stabbed 47-year-old Alice Mei See Leung and her mother mother, 80-year-old Po Lin Wan, who were visiting from Ontario. Pelzer was apparently trying to steal Wan's pocketbook in broad daylight, when things turned horrifically violent:
The two women were attacked in the middle of the city's tourism district Monday during what police are calling a botched robbery in broad daylight.

Police patrolling the streets witnessed the attack, intervened and arrested Antoinette Pelzer, 44. Pelzer has been charged with murder in connection with the deaths. She appeared confused, shook her head and made odd faces while the judge read the description of the events in court.

Superior Court Judge Michael Donia had difficulty getting Pelzer to focus and respond to questions and Pelzer laughed out loud when the judge asked if she applied for a public defender.
There's clearly something seriously wrong with Pelzer. She is charged with two counts of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and robbery. More here: Canadian women stabbed to death in Atlantic City identified.
