Trekkies, rejoice. Rumor has it that Michelle Yeoh will star in the new Star Trek series. Whaaaaaat.
There's currently an unconfirmed rumor floating around that the veteran actress has joined the cast of Star Trek: Discovery, the new Star Trek series in the works for CBS' new All Access platform.
Exclusive: Michelle Yeoh Boards Star Trek: Discovery
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer, who is a consulting producer on the show, recently revealed that the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon star has a role in Discovery -- potentially as the series' lead.
"I know Michelle Yeoh is in it," Meyer told Coming Soon, probably revealing something he shouldn't have.
The casting is unconfirmed -- CBS had no comment -- but some are speculating Yeoh could be the show's female lead, a Starfleet officer who isn't necessarily the captain, as previously reported.
Or heck, maybe she's the captain.
Yeoh, of course, is an international superstar who made a name for herself doing her own stunts in films like The Heroic Trio, Police Story 3: Super Cop (god, that motorcycle-train jump) and Tai Chi Master.
In the west, she is perhaps best known for her roles in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies and Ang Lee's acclaimed wuxia epic Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. She recently appeared season two of the Netflix original series Marco Polo and reprised her role as Yu Shu Lien in the Crouching Tiger sequel.
Star Trek: Discovery will premiere on the core CBS broadcast network, then all episodes of the series will be available exclusively on the subscription streaming service CBS All Access in May 2017.
I was already probably going to watch this. But if Michelle Yeoh's in it, I'm definitely in.
