NYPD: Classify brutal attack against 89-year old Asian woman a Hate Crime.
Last month in Brooklyn, an 89-year old Asian woman was assaulted and set on fire by two people in masks. The police are not investigating the incident as a hate crime, despite the fact that there was no provocation, the assailants didn't know the victim, and they didn't try to take anything from her. It was just a heinous, violent act. This petition is calling on the NYPD and Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez to classify the incident as a hate crime.

James Hong Deserves a Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Benson Lee Set to Direct 20th Century Studios' Untitled K-Pop Film
Seoul Searching director Benson Lee is set to direct a K-pop-themed feature film from 20th Century Fox Studios. The untitled film follows a young Asian American college student from the United States who becomes a top competitor on South Korea's toughest k-pop competition show and chases her dreams of becoming a K-Pop star, despite the disapproval of her family.

First Look at Character Designs From 'Invicible'
Here's a first look at the character designs from the upcoming Amazon animated series Invincible, based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman and starring the voice of Steven Yeun in the title role. It's a Walking Dead reunion, of sorts. Invincible follows a teenager named Mark Grayson whose father is the most powerful superhero on the planet. The series is set to premiere later this year.

Wow. Wow. This is a must-see for fans of Hayao Miyazaki. One talented superfan, Vimeo user dono, has made a stunning tribute to the beloved master animator, re-creating some of Miyazaki's most famous worlds and characters in animated 3D. The video features characters from Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Wind Rises, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Ponyo. Jin Kim, Character Design Supervisor at Walt Disney Animation Studios, drew this awesome piece featuring Big Hero 6 characters Hiro Hamada and Baymax in an homage to legendary Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki. Fans will immediately recognize the drawing as an iconic allusion to the Studio Ghibli classic My Neighbor Totoro. It's pretty darn wonderful:

In this week's episode of The Simpsons, Springfield's number one geek and proprietor of The Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop, Comic Book Guy, finds his true love: a manga artist named Kumiko. Let's face it: that sounds about right. And that's a cue for the show to do some Japanese stuff...

Like pay tribute to a legend. In this crazy sequence, The Simpsons tips its hat to legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, who announced that his latest animated feature The Wind Rises, would be his last. The wonderfully weird scene says goodbye with references to some of the master animator's most well-known films.

A 6" figure tribute to the legendary master animator



Sunday marked the 73rd birthday of legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, the celebrated director behind such classics as My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and countless more beloved films. To celebrate the occasion, our artist friend (and huuuuuuge Miyazaki fan) Martin Hsu has teamped up with Bigshot Toyworks to create and produce a limited edition run of six-inch Miya-San figures.

Details are sparse -- full specs, pricing and presale/release dates are still forthcoming -- but it's a definitely a cool little collectible for any Miyazaki fan. For further information, head over to Martin's website.
