guest post: paperdoll's all or nothing china tour, day 5-7

Teresa Lee, lead singer of the New York City-based indie pop band PaperDoll, is dropping guest posts on the road during the "All or Nothing" China tour.

DAY 5-6

We're off to Ningbo! Waiting outside our hotel, I get a call from our host in YiWu -- Jack Wu -- who's supposed to drop us off at the bus station. He's running late because he got into a car accident. Despite getting the bumper of his car ripped off, he picks us up 45 minutes before our bus leaves. I'm a little nervous about making our bus, but Jack Wu is cool and collected.

Thirty minutes before our bus departure we pull up to a noodle house. Our gracious host was not about to have us leave hungry! Obviously. So during his car accident he made reservations and ordered ahead at this super authentic YiWu noodle house.

DAY 3

The next day, we all get up at what I think is an appropriate time to catch our 11:28a train to YiWu. Well, it would have been enough time if while putting our bags into the cab, Will hadn't busted the cabbie's taillight. And it would have been enough time if Shanghai Hongqiao train station wasn't the size of ten football fields. But he did. And it is. We miss the 11:28 train and have to wait for the 2:30 train.

The train is comfortable, fast, and full of people eating peanuts. Not just any peanuts. These were the loudest, crunchiest peanuts in all the land. I put on earplugs and fall asleep to the muddled sound of people cracking and stepping on shells. We've gotten an average of four hours of sleep a night so far. I'm so jet-lagged I have no idea if I'm tired, motion sick, wide awake, or all three.

Obama almost ruined our tour. It's 4:30am the day after the election and we're waiting in a car for Will at Union Square. Our flight is at 7:30a out of Newark and post-Sandy, the tunnels are all closed so we don't have much room for error. I call Will, it goes straight to voicemail. We figure he's on the subway.

4:45am .... I call again - straight to voicemail. 5am...still no sign of him so we look up his roommates' phone numbers on facebook and ring them. One of them answers and we learn as suspected, Will slept through his alarm. He stayed up watching election results. As a band mate - BOOO! As an advocate of civil responsibility - I give the English immigrant a pass.

paperdoll's all or nothing china tour 2012

One of my favorite bands, PaperDoll, is going on tour. The New York City-based indie pop band is off on the All or Nothing China Tour 2012 in support of their recently released sophomore album Sashimi Deluxe.

This is the band's fourth time in China, with stops in major metropolitan cities including Shanghai, Yiwu, Ningbo, Hangzhou, and Kunshan. Here's the tour schedule -- pass it along to your friends in China:
