76-year-old grocer dies in DC store robbery

Two armed suspects wanted for homicide and armed robbery, caught on surveillance video

Learned of some tragic news out of Washington DC... Police are asking for the public's help finding two armed men who are responsible for the death of a 76-year-old grocer during a store robbery last week.

Man dies after DC store robbery, beating

James Oh died Tuesday after suffering severe head trauma during the July 4 robbery, when one of the suspects used a gun to hit Oh on his head. Surveillance video shows the two men entering the store, forcing their way behind the counter, taking money from the register and assaulting Oh and his wife.

Here's the footage from the robbery:

According to police, the two masked suspects left the scene in a stolen black Jeep Cherokee with DC tag number "DP 6033." One man was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and the other was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Both suspects are described as being about 17 or 18 years old.

In a sad personal connection, it's worth noting that the victim was related to author (and friend to this blog) Ellen Oh. My deepest condolences to her family for their tragic loss.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering up a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for James Oh's death. Anyone who can identify these individuals or has knowledge of the incident is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
