Lana Condor cast as Jubilee in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Will she have a significant role in the mutant movie sequel?

An Asian American addition to the cast of the upcoming X-Men movie sequel... Director Bryan Singer has announced that newcomer Lana Condor has been cast as teenage mutant superhero Jubilee in the 2016 feature X-Men: Apocalypse. Singer made the announcement on Wednesday via social media:

I'd officially like to welcome our newest mutant #JubilationLee, #Jubilee @LanaCondor to #XMEN #Apocalypse

Jubilee, created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri, was first introduced in 1989's Uncanny X-Men #244 as a younger addition to the mutant superhero team, with the ability to generate explosive plasmoids from her hands. And yes, she is one of the Marvel Universe's few Asian American comic book superheroes.

The character has appeared in super-brief cameos in previous X-Men movies, played by Katrina Florece in X-Men, and Kea Wong in X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand. She isn't even named in those appearances, but keen-eyed X-Fans surely recognized her yellow jacket and sunglasses.

Perhaps Jubilee will have a bigger role in the story this time around?

We'll find out when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
