This is one of the New York Times Pictures of the Day. You can't see her face in this photo, but that's clearly Tammy Duckworth hugging President-elect Barack Obama at the Bronze Soldiers Memorial in Chicago. Duckworth, an Iraq war veteran, lost both her legs in combat as a helicopter pilot during the war. She now serves as director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.
I just heard that there's currently a grassroots campaign pushing for Obama to appoint Duckworth as Secretary of Veterans' Affairs in his incoming administration: Tammy Duckworth Being Pushed For Veterans Affairs Secretary. I think it's safe to say that she would be awesome at it. Here's an online petition in support of the appointment: Cleland Duckworth Petition.
