sukhee kang elected irvine's first korean american mayor

Last week in Orange County, Sukhee Kang was elected the city of Irvine's first Korean American mayor—the city's first nonwhite mayor, actually: Kang becomes Irvine's first Korean-American mayor. In fact, Kang appears to be the first Korean American mayor in all of Orange County.

Kang's mayoral win reflects the growing political power of Irvine's Asian Americans—more than one third of the city's population—four years after he and Steven Choi became the first Korean Americans elected to the city council. More here: Irvine voters embrace diversity in mayoral election.
