Awesome! My friend Dave Liang, the musician/producer behind The Shanghai Restoration Project, recently appeared on NBC's Last Call With Carson Daly. Wait, what is that? If you don't know, then you obviously haven't been up watching NBC past 1:30 in the morning. Oh, but I have. In this segment, Dave talks about the process of combining traditional Chinese instruments with hip hop and electronica to create his unique sound.

The Shanghai Restoration Project, aka our friend Dave Liang, makes awesome music, blending Chinese instruments with the western sounds of hip hop and electronica. SRP's latest album, entitled The Classics, features contemporary remakes of popular 1930s & 1940s Shanghai jazz songs. I got my hands on an early preview of the album, and it's super-cool, like hopping into a sexy Shanghai time machine.

Film, live music and storytelling merge in Himalaya Song

Himalaya Song is a live film performance that debuted at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Named as one of the Top 10 Music films at the festival by Rolling Stone, the project is a collaboration between Chinese American artist Dave Liang (Shanghai Restoration Project) and two Indian American artists: musician Gingger Shankar and filmmaker Mridu Chandra. Through a combination of film, live music, and storytelling, the tale explores the Himalayas, its people, and the environmental challenges they face.

New York City! Our good friend Dave Liang of the Shanghai Restoration Project, who blends Chinese culture with hip hop and electronic music, will be performing a free live show this Thursday, March 7 at the World Financial Center Winter Garden. The performance renowned Shanghai singer Zhang Le, as well as Dave's supercool beats. Here are some more details about the show:
