national problem gambling awareness week, march 6-12

Next week, March 6-12, is National Problem Gambling Awareness Week. a grassroots program designed to create public awareness about the dangers and ramifications of compulsive gambling. And as you might be aware, this is a problem that affects the Asian Pacific Islander community in disproportionate ways.

The Center of Addiction Recovery & Empowerment at Asian Americans for Community Involvement is trying to raise awareness around the issue of problem gambling and the social, economic and psychological implications it has on individuals, family members and our community at large.

Emerging data suggests that problem gambling may be highly prevalent among APIs, and that gambling addiction has an adverse affect not only on the gambler, but his or her family members. Will you help spread the word? Here's the basic messaging:

When: March 6-12, 2011

Why: Problem Gambling week is devoted to problem gambling to allow people to learn information as well as for us to give awareness on problem gambling. The goal of this campaign is to educate the general public and health care professionals about the warning signs of problem gambling and raise awareness about the help that is available both locally and nationally.
