Harry Shum Jr. gave Jon M. Chu a crazy huge 'Crazy Rich Asians' painting

He had to rent a cargo van to haul it.



Harry Shum Jr.'s career in Hollywood has been closely associated with director Jon M. Chu for years, having performed in several of his projects, including most recently in Crazy Rich Asians as Charlie Wu (if only for a few precious seconds). They've developed an enduring personal and professional friendship.

To show his gratitude and celebrate the success of their landmark film, Harry got Jon a very unique not-so-small token of appreciation: a ridiculously huge original portrait, custom-painted by Depicteur, featuring the entire cast of Crazy Rich Asians. It was so big, he apparently had to rent a cargo van to haul it over to Jon's place.

Mark your calendars. Crazy Rich Asians has a release date. Warner Bros. has announced that the comedy, starring Constance Wu and Henry Golding, will be released on August 17, 2018.

The story follows Rachel Chu, a Chinese American economics professor who accompanies her boyfriend Nick back to his hometown of Singapore for his best friend's wedding. That's when she realizes Nick's family is crazy rich, he is perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down.

Asians! Fighting! Sharp objects! It's 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny'

Check it, martial arts movie fans. Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny, the upcoming sequel to Ang Lee's 2000 martial arts epic. Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Yu Shu-Lien, now tasked with protecting the legendary Green Destiny sword against an evil warlord.

Directed by legendary martial arts choreographer Yuen Wo-Ping, and written by John Fusco, the film is based on the wuxia novel Iron Knight, Silver Vase (Book 5 in Wang Dulu's Crane-Iron Pentalogy). Sword of Destiny also stars Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Harry Shum Jr., Roger Yuan and Eugenia Yuan.

We have the newly dropped trailer for the crime drama Revenge of the Green Dragons. Directed by Andrew Lau and Andrew Loo, and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, the movie is based on a 1992 New Yorker article that chronicled the underworld of Asian American gang life in 1980s and 90s New York City.

Harry Shum Jr., whose moves (and abs) you know and love from Glee, has been cast as one of the leads in the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon which started production this week.

Yes, there is Crouching Tiger sequel in the works. Directed by master action choreographer Yuen Wo-Ping, the movie is set twenty years after the events of Ang Lee's award-winning martial arts drama. The sequel's cast includes Donnie Yen and Michelle Yeoh, reprising her role Yu Shu-lien.

CAPE's #IAm Campaign celebrates AAPI role models

AAPI artists and entertainers assemble for original webseries and mini-documentaries



In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE) has launched the CAPE #IAm Campaign, an awesome webseries putting the spotlight on AAPI personalities and role models in media and entertainment.

The campaign features a scripted webseries and nineteen mini-documentaries featuring dozens of stars like Michelle Phan, Steven Yeun, Carrie Ann Inaba, Harry Shum Jr., Lisa Ling, Jeremy Lin and more. I have the honor of somehow getting included in the mix with these awesome people. Whaaaat.

Production begins on Revenge of the Green Dragons



Some interesting movie news... It looks like we'll be seeing the likes of Harry Shum Jr., Justin Chon, KevJumba and MC Jin starring in Revenge of the Green Dragons.

Production has already begun on the gangster action thriller, which is inspired by a New Yorker article on the Chinese American underworld. Directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Andrew Lau and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, the 1980s-set crime drama tells the story of two immigrant siblings' rise and fall within a New York Chinatown gang, the Green Dragons. So who's in the movie?

The film's IMDb page already lists Glee's Harry Shum Jr. and Eugenia Yuan as part of the cast. But some rumors began circulating this week that Justin, Kevin and Jin have roles in the movie. The speculation seemed to be confirmed by a couple of intriguing tweets between the actors.

mortal kombat: legacy season two to premiere in 2013



This week, Warner Brothers announced that production on the second season of the hit action web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy is underway, and will premiere exclusively on Machinima in the second quarter of 2013.

Based on the popular fighting video game franchise, the series is directed by Kevin Tancharoen and stars Harry Shum Jr. as Kuai Liang, Casper Van Dien as Johnny Cage, Brian Tee as Liu Kang, Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion, and Cary Tagawa(!) as Shang Tsung.

glee deleted scene: a chang family moment



Glee producer Ryan Murphy recent shared this deleted scene from the end of season four, featuring Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Ushkowitz sharing a moment with Keong Sim and Tamlyn Tomita, who play Mike Chang's parents. It's a good scene, and a nice way to close out the "Asian F" storyline -- too bad it ended up on the cutting room floor. Take a look:
