For this edition of the Away Mission, we welcome writer Michael Golamco (Always Be My Maybe, Grimm, Nightflyers) to discuss "The Measure of a Man" from season two of Star Trek: The Next Generation -- widely considered to be one of the best episodes of the franchise. Randall Park, Michael Golamco and Hieu Ho launch new production company

Imminent Collision will develop "comedy-forward stories from Asian American perspectives."



From Deadline: Fresh Off the Boat star Randall Park has teamed with longtime creative partners and friends Michael Golamco and Hieu Ho to launch Imminent Collision, a production company dedicated to developing comedy-forward stories from Asian American perspectives.

In a competitive situation, the company has signed a first-look television deal with 20th Century Fox Television, the studio behind Fresh Off the Boat. Park, Golamco and Ho drew inspiration for the name of their company, Imminent Collision, from a play of the same title they worked on as members of Lapu The Coyote That Cares, the Asian American theater company co-founded by Park at UCLA over 20 years ago.

You gotta love this funny quote from Randall, Michael and Hieu in the press release: "Our immigrant parents came to America with a dream. That dream was for their children to land a first look television producing deal, scripted and unscripted, at a major Hollywood studio. We would like to thank Carolyn, Howard, Dana, Craig and the entire 20th team for helping us make our parents proud."

The live-action adaptation of Akira has been drowning in a special kind of Hollywood hell for years, with many different directors, many false starts, and many white actors attached to star. If you ask most fans of the famed cult manga and animated feature, it was probably best for everyone to just let this one die.

But Akira is not dead. It lives. Warner Bros. has announced that Taika Waititi is directing Akira. Officially. Finally. Seriously, the rumors started like two years ago. And hey, the script is co-written by Michael Golamco, who co-wrote the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy Always Be My Maybe with Randall Park and Ali Wong.

These are all very positive developments.

Wong and Park star as Sasha and Marcus, inseparable childhood friends. But when tragedy and hormones (and an awkward moment in the backseat of a Toyota Corolla) put a rift between them, they don't speak for 15 years. Reconnecting as adults, Sasha is now a celebrity chef opening a restaurant in San Francisco, while Marcus is a happily struggling musician still living at home and working for his dad. Though the two are reluctant to reconnect, they soon find the old sparks -- and maybe some new ones -- are there.

That Ali Wong/Randall Park romantic comedy, once just a hypothetical dream flick sprinkled with social media-fueled fairy dust, is a real thing. The Netflix feature film has begun production, has a title -- Always Be My Maybe -- and has assembled a crazy amazing cast that includes Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves. Whoa. As if we weren't already losing our minds over this project, it's now officially our most anticipated movie of 2019.

Wong and Park star as childhood sweethearts, Sasha and Marcus, who have a falling out and don't speak for 15 years. They discover the old sparks are still there, but can they adapt to each other's world?

The film began shooting this week in Vancouver.
