college student charged with killing father

Whoa. In Virginia, 19-year-old Alan Yuan Chang, a first-year student at the University of Virginia, appeared at a preliminary hearing last week on first-degree murder charges in the death his father, 47-year-old Jian Zhang: Hearing set for Henrico man, 19, accused of murdering father.
Chang was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jian Zhang, 47, after the young man turned himself in. Zhang died Friday night.

Police went to a home in the 11800 block of Norwich Place off Nuckols Road after responding to a call for a medical emergency. Zhang was found with signs of blunt-force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A search warrant yesterday said that four frying pans, a brick and a U.Va. student identification card were among items taken by police from the five-bedroom home.
There are no details, other than "some kind of domestic disturbance" about what led to Zhang's death. A judge set a preliminary hearing date for March 22 and ordered Chang held without bond. A seemingly normal college kid is charged with killing his dad -- what the hell happened?
