This one's for all you Asian American film fans in Oregon. The Fifth Annual DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon returns! So much to see, so much to do. It's happening this week, April 23-25 at the Bijou Art Cinemas in Eugene.
The mission: "DisOrient is a social justice film festival dedicated to deconstructing the media stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans as "Orientals". We believe in the power of film-as-art to educate, heal and improve the lives of people by giving voice to their experiences."
Out of over 70 film submissions this year, DisOrient will be showing about six features and over twent shorts, including films made by young local Eugene/Springfield filmmakers. Things kick off this Friday with the Opening Night film Mr. Sadman, directed by Patrick Epino.
Other highlights include my buddy Dawen performing at the Opening Night party; the Centerpiece Presentation, A Village Called Versailles; and filmmaker H.P.
