win free tickets to the 2011 laapff: saigon electric, among b-boys and bangkok knockout

All right, good people of Los Angeles. The countdown to the 2011 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival is on. Running April 28 through May 7, they've got an absolutely packed scheduled of films, parties, panels and other events to satisfy your cinema-lovin' self. There's something for everybody!

Want to be part of the festivities? I think you do. This blog is a proud media sponsor and community co-presenter of LAAPFF, and I'm giving away some free passes to several films: Saigon Electric, Among B-Boys and Bangkok Knockout. Read on for details...

Saigon Electric
Directed by Stephane Gauger
109 min.
Friday, April 29, 7:00pm
Laemmle Sunset 5

A vibrant 80's throwback approach to Vietnam's modern youth culture while instilling an abundance of contemporary bluster, SAIGON ELECTRIC is the ultimate mash of current dance films with a healthy dose of BEAT STREET and a nod to BREAKIN' 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO. A stylish and highly charged film filled with gentle moments while never relinquishing its drive to move you in your seat.

I'm giving away five pairs of tickets to Saigon Electric. Here's how to enter for your chance to win... First, follow @angryasianman on Twitter. Then tweet this message: I want to win free #LAAPFF #saigonelectric tickets from @angryasianman! http://bit.ly/laapff-aam. I will pick some names at random, and five lucky winners will each get a pair of tickets.

Among B-Boys
Directed by Christopher Woon
58 min.
Wednesday, May 4, 9:15pm
CGV Cinemas 1

AMONG B-BOYS, Chris Woon's debut feature-length documentary, is an expansion of his 2004 short film produced through Visual Communications' Armed With a Camera Fellowship. That version, which observed the influence of hip-hop culture on Hmong teenagers living in California's Central Valley, offered only a taste of a community's growing infatuation with urban Americana. In the nearly seven years since, Woon returned several times to document the lives of his subjects. Time and patience has yielded a fuller portrait of an American community whose ongoing construction of a hyphenate-American identity intersects the traditional and the modern.

Bangkok Knockout
Directed by Morakot Kaewthanee, Panna Rittikral
107 min.
Friday, May 6, 9:30pm
CGV Cinemas 2

Fair warning: BANGKOK KNOCKOUT, or BKO for short, is not Shakespeare. The story is paper-thin. The first 15 minutes are almost kind of grueling. But, in a strange way, sitting through the mundane '80s B-movie histrionics is all worth it when the action kicks into high gear in one of the most high-octane martial arts action flicks to come out of Thailand in years! Directed by Panna Rittkrai, a real life legend of Thai action cinema, BKO is his latest action vehicle showcasing young Thai action talent, and a true indication that Thai fighters are the biggest badasses on the planet.
