Giveaway: Enter to win a copy of Chinese in Hollywood

New book explores the contributions of Chinese and Chinese Americans to Hollywood film/television

Here's something cool for Asian American and Hollywood history buffs... Chinese in Hollywood, by Jenny Cho and the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California, is a new book exploring the contributions of Chinese and Chinese Americans to the film and television industries. From the pioneers of the silent era to present-day personalities, the book is stacked with fascinating vintage photographs from all across Hollywood.

The awesome cover image, by the way, is a badass photo of the legendary Bruce Lee demonstrating a kick to superstar Nancy Kwan on the set of the feature film The Wrecking Crew, circa 1968.

Want to win a free book? Yes. Everybody likes free stuff. I'm giving away a copy of Chinese in Hollywood. Scroll down to the bottom for details. First, here's some more information about the book:

Hollywood has long exerted an international influence on the global imagination. In the first half of the 20th century, Chinese American actors who aspired to a career in Hollywood found their opportunities limited to roles that propagated Asian stereotypes. Meanwhile, many Chinese roles were given to non-Asian actors playing yellowface. It has been a long, hard road for Chinese in Hollywood who have striven to build meaningful careers behind and in front of the camera. This book focuses on the contributions of Chinese and Chinese Americans to the film and television industries as well as those who lived and worked in the Hollywood area. Vintage photographs celebrate pioneers such as Anna May Wong, Tyrus Wong, Milton Quon, James Wong Howe, and many more. From the silent film era to the present, the history of Chinese in Hollywood will surpass 100 years.

Over 200 images from studio and local archives, private collections, the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California (CHSSC), and author Jenny Cho chronicle the journey of Chinese in Hollywood. Cho is a board member of the CHSSC and the author of two previous Arcadia titles: Chinatown in Los Angeles (2009) and Chinatown and China City in Los Angeles (2011).

The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today. Arcadia is proud to play a part in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all.
